Meetings and Events
Located 10 minutes from the historic center of Évora and 1h30 from Lisbon, Convento do Espinheiro, once an old building from the 17th century. XV, which was the residence of clergy and royalty, now transformed into an impressive 5-star hotel. Convento do Espinheiro has at its disposal several spaces located in the old and modern area of the Convent, which can be adapted according to the needs of each client.
Name given to this room in honor of Our Lady, who also gives its name to the Church of Santa Maria do Espinheiro. Ideal for meetings and events.
When not in use for meetings and events, we make this room and its small collection of books available to our guests for their moments of relaxation.
This room owes its name to the artist and monk of Flemish origin, who professed in this convent and who was one of the main figures of altarpiece paintings in the Iberian Peninsula, at the beginning of the 16th century. The paintings that decorate this room are copies of his works. It is an ideal room for meetings and events.
This room owes its name to another important figure in the history of the Convento do Espinheiro: S. Jerónimo, who inspired the religious order of monks who lived in this convent. Suitable for meetings and events.
This room owes its name to the fact that this location was once the mill of the monks of the Convento do Espinheiro, who produced their own olive oil here. Ideal for meetings and large events.
This room owes its name to a very important figure in the history of the Convent of Espinheiro: D. Vasco Perdigão, Bishop of Évora, who was the founder of this convent in 1457. Suitable for meetings and large-scale events.

Guided Tour
to the convent
By reading the inscriptions and heraldic representations present in the tombs that are located inside the space of the Convent of Nª. Srª do Espinheiro, today perfectly recovered, we can travel back in time and get to know better the prominent members of the governance of the Kingdom and the City of Évora, over about three centuries, but with special focus on the second half of the 15th century, during the 16th and early 17th centuries, this and much more to discover…
To do
Bread
For many centuries, the Monks Jerónimos, who inhabited the Convento do Espinheiro, baked their own bread in a wood oven, it will be possible to relive those times with the Chef who, next to the oven, now recovered, transmits to the participants the ancestral knowledge of the art to knead the rustic wheat flour well. After kneading, it’s time to put the dough next to the oven. The Chef takes advantage of this hour to take the participants to his vegetable garden where coriander, pennyroyal and the mythical Escorcioneira de Évora grow.
workshop
Alentejo cuisine
It is inside the wood stove in the Conventual Kitchen, a small but precious Manueline example covered by a robust barrel vault, that the Chef found the ideal space to share decades of experience dedicated to Alentejo Gastronomy. The participants, armed with fresh ingredients including aromatic herbs grown in the monastery’s vegetable garden, embark on a journey of flavors where they themselves make old homemade recipes under the guidance of the Chef. The reward is given in the form of knowledge, which one day will “perhaps” allow them to share with friends what they have learned here about the delicious Cozinha dos Ganhões.
workshop
Conventual confectionery
The abundance of sugar from the 16th century onwards, the spices that the Convents received for leasing their properties (e.g. eggs, cereals, etc.) that lasted until the present day. The former Kitchen of Convento do Espinheiro is the place chosen to evoke these delicious creations under the guidance of our Chef, in a workshop full of flavors and… calories.
Proof of
wines
In the old Gothic cistern, enjoy a conversation around wine with our Sommelier.
Proof of
olive oils
Underneath our Millennial olive tree (1099 years old) we will discover the mythical, biblical, Romanesque and historical, “olive oil always comes to the fore”. This precious “gold” has always been present in the corners of our daily life: in the poor man’s lamp and in the rich man’s candelabrum, on the peasant’s frugal table and in the solemn temples of ancient cults…
