Name given in honour of Our Lady, who also gives name to the Convent’s church: Santa Maria do Espinheiro.
When not in use for meetings and events, this room and its small collection of books may be enjoyed by our guests for their moments of relaxation.
This room owes its name to an artist and monk of Flemish origin, who professed at Convento do Espinheiro and was one of the most well-known painters of alter pieces in the Iberian Peninsula in the early sixteenth century. The paintings which decorate this room are copies of his works of art.
This room owes its name to another very important figure of the history of Convento do Espinheiro: Saint Jerome, who inspired the religious order of the monks who lived in this convent.
“LAGAR” is the Portuguese name given to the place where olives are crushed and processed to produce olive-oil and here is precisely where the monks of Convento do Espinheiro produced their own olive-oil.
This room owes its name to a very important figure of the history of Convento do Espinheiro: D. Vasco Perdigão, Bishop of Évora, who was the founder of this convent in 1457.
